Redcurrant, cherry and olive-leaf aromas follow through to a medium body with very fine, caressing tannins and a long, juicy finish. Lightly crunchy and chewy. Extremely well crafted and delicious already, but better in a couple of years. Drink or hold.

Giacomo Borgogno 2023 Timorasso Derthona Colli Tortonesi
Price range: $54.99 through $540.00Piedmont Italy
Intense yellow, very clear and consistent. It is intense and complex on the nose: in the early years there are fruity smells reminiscent of pear, peach and Floreal smells such as acacia flowers and hawthorn and mineral notes. The honey note is very typical of this wine. In the mouth, the Derthona is a dry, warm and sof wine with a good match between high levels of alcohol and high content in organic acids. It has no edges but the texture is balanced and very persistent.

Toasted coconut, cedar box and cherry-chocolate aromas on the nose give way to a palate lush with cherries, blackberries and strawberries, with a candied-red-apple sheen. Smooth, polished tannins and forgiving acid lead to a berries and cream finish. R29-4

Giodo 2020 Brunello di Montalcino
Price range: $159.99 through $870.00Tuscany Italy
Jeb Dunnuck 98 Rating
The first look at Giodo’s 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is a showstopper and one of the highlights of the vintage. It pours a jeweled ruby color and is ripe and giving on the nose, with ripe, pure aromas of preserved raspberries, fresh herbs, sweet mossy earth, and a pristine floral profile. Medium-bodied, it fills and expands through the palate, with ripe tannins, broad shoulders, and a clean, mineral finish with a darker profile. It’s going to improve as it leans into its more tertiary notes of black truffle and tea leaf and gets darker on the finish. This may be a wine that competes with 2019 for complexity and depth, and it will be worth cellaring to find out.
