The Prisoner Wine Company 2023 The Prisoner
Price range: $35.99 through $420.00Napa Valley California
The Tasting Panel 91 Rating
Packed with very ripe flavors, 15.5% stated alcohol, and plenty of coconut-scented oak riding atop its mostly black-toned fruit. Notable sweetness helps balance out the 35% new oak and buffers the wine’s tannin load, resulting in a very big wine with forgivingly soft texture.

The Setting 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley
Price range: $79.99 through $420.00California
Jeb Dunnuck 98 Rating
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley comes from one of the coldest sites from which they farm Cabernet Sauvignon. A dark red color, the wine is forward with blue-fruited highlights and shining with notes of juniper, pine, violets, forest floor, and fresh herbs. It’s long, elegant, and focused on the palate, with a more linear feel, an even plushness of tannins, and redcurrants, cassis, and vanilla shining through to the long finish. Drink 2025-2050. The Vineyard House 2021 Crabb’s Black Burgundy Block 5 Cabernet Franc
$154.99Hermosa Vineyard Oakville Napa Valley
Enjoyabilityfactor 99 Rating
The Cabernet Franc Crabb’s Black Burgundy Block 5 comes from the Hermosa Vineyard and a block that sits immediately adjacent to Harlan Estate. The 2021 The Vineyard House Cabernet Franc, Block 5 is a blend of 87% Cabernet Franc and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is deep ruby and opaque; the bouquet is elegant with its florals perhaps dominating the fruits including of African violets and rose petals, accompanied by notes of raspberry jam, red plums and boysenberry. This is a riper expression of the variety but still offers plenty of varietal characteristics. On the palate there are darker fruited flavors including boysenberry jam, blackberry, dark plum and Persian mulberry. The tannins offer a firm and long-term tug, broadly coating with a persistent grainy, gravelly and dusty/chalky character. And there are some baking spice influences including cinnamon, cardamom and cloves. Of all their bottlings, their Cabernet Franc perhaps pairs best with spicy food. Winemakers: Philippe Melka & Maayan Koschitzky. BX-3 R3-1 -

Three Sticks 2023 Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown Vineyard
Price range: $69.99 through $348.00Sonoma Coast California
The Tasting Panel 95 Rating
If there’s a superstar site in Petaluma Gap, it’s Gap’s Crown Vineyard, where persistent winds and fog ensure a long hangtime. The results show in this exciting whole-cluster red aged 15 months in (45% new) French oak. A pinch of earthiness lightly touches cinnamon-dusted cherries as the liquid’s delicacy graces the palate like a lace veil. Pomegranate is spiced with clove and bright acidity imparts freshness, satisfying through the juicy, dark-fruited finish. R3-3
