    Wine Advocate 100 Rating
The 2022 Les Carmes Haut-Brion is the finest wine bottled to date at this estate under Patrice Pichet’s ownership and Guillaume Pouthier’s direction. Unfurling from the glass with aromas of violet, iris, dark wild berries, pencil lead and mulberries, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated with a deep core of fruit beautifully framed by velvety, precise tannins, segueing into a long, saline and perfumed finish. Suave and harmonious, it was crafted with 70% whole bunches and matured in 70% new oak. This unconventional blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Merlot represents a turning point for the estate, cementing its rapid ascendancy in the Bordeaux firmament. SP53-2

Deep cherry in color, it has an earthy smell. It’s a medium bodied wine with ripe cherry and black tea flavors. There’s also a strong tannic structure that you get full blast if you swish it around a while before swallowing.

Les Hauts de Pez, the Château’s second wine, is also in the Saint Estèphe appellation. Certified Terra Vitis, it enjoys the same care and attention as the first wine, in both the vineyard and the cellar, and benefits from the same state-of-the-art equipment and the same exacting standards. Bright ruby color with good intensity. Fresh red fruits on the nose, delicious mouthfeel with well-wrapped tannins and a nice return on the fruit on the finish.

Today, the winemaking at Château Lescalle is still done in the classic Médoc style. Vineyard manager Claude Gaudin rigorously follows several basic principles. Extremely dense planting of the vines (up to 5000 vines per hectare) naturally limits the yields and increases the intensity of the fruit. A long maceration ensures full extraction of the fruit flavors and is followed by aging in barriques with a just touch of new oak.

beautifully layered red with blackcurrant, hazelnut and lead-pencil character and fine, velvety tannins. Full-bodied and reserved. It’s like a tightly knit ball of polished tannins that are cashmere in texture. So very long and impressive. Give this time. A terrific Lynch. Better after 2027. SP56-2 SP59-12

Produced from old Merlot vines and aged in 100% new wood, this is a powerful wine. It works impressively despite the heavy, mint and toast woodiness because the black fruit is so rich and concentrated.
