Facets is Gemstone’s non-estate wine, crafted from carefully selected vineyards in Yountville and Oak Knoll by winemaker Julien Fayard, who took the helm in 2021. The 2022 Facets is a crowd-pleaser with upfront appeal, offering heady aromas of violets, rose petals, sweet candied red berry fruit, and dusty minerals. The velvety, fine-grained tannins are seamlessly integrated on the palate, giving the wine a polished texture. Full-bodied and rich, it features expressive, balanced cedarwood sweetness and finishes with notes of crushed cacao nibs. Grapes are gently pressed directly into barrels for fermentation and aged up to 18 months in 40% new French oak. The 2022 vintage is approachable now and perfect for drinking, while the more structured 2021s continue to develop, delivering a harmonious balance of richness, elegance, and immediate gratification. The 2019 Syrah TBD is also magical stuff. Mostly destemmed (there are 25% stems) and aging in 70% new French oak (mostly from Bien Nacido), its deep purple color is followed by incredibly pure crème de cassis and blackberry fruits that give way to more peppery, meaty, spicy notes with time in the glass. Full-bodied, concentrated, yet also flawlessly balanced, it has plenty of tannins and a great finish. My instincts say 2-4 years of bottle age are going to beneficial, but this is brilliant. SP18-1

I was able to taste both the 2019 Grenache and Syrah from barrel, both showing beautifully. The 2019 Grenache TBD is slightly more fruit-forward with lots of red and blue fruits as well as sappy flower and violet notes. A finesse-driven Grenache that still brings serious richness and power, it's full-bodied and has silky tannins, terrific balance, and a sensational sense of freshness. R1-2 SP18-1

The wine has an inky dark color and pronounced aromas of blackberry, fig, smoke and spice. The texture is lush, yet there are firm tannins and the wine never seems overbearing or aggressive – everything is kept in elegant balance. Faiveley is the proprietor of three parcels that total 1.27ha in the Clos de Vougeot, including a portion in Grand Maupertuis and two parcels nearer the bottom. The fruit was picked very ripe (14.5%) and partially destemmed before fermentation, with a very careful extraction and ageing in cask (half new). SPBX-6

I loved the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Malbec. There are a scant 200 cases made, but it's a brilliant wine loaded with dark, chocolaty fruit as well as hints of flowers and earthy minerality. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, textured, yet always balanced and fresh, I'd be thrilled to drink a bottle any time over the coming 15+ years. BX-6
