Ridge Vineyards 2016 East Bench Zinfandel$19.99–$239.88
Dry Creek Valley California
Antonio Galloni 94 Rating
The 2016 Zinfandel East Bench is supported by bright acids that give the wine the tension and energy that are typical of Dry Creek. Primary sweet red and purplish berry fruit notes are pushed forward in this vibrant, beautifully delineated pure Zinfandel. Readers may want to cellar the 2016 for a few years, as it is tightly wound today, but all the elements are impeccably balanced. The East Bench abuts the Syrah block at Lytton Springs. Put simply: what a wine!

Ridge Vineyards 2016 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon$49.99–$276.00
Santa Cruz Mountains California
Jeb Dunnuck 94 Rating
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate comes from the Santa Cruz Mountain estate, and it follows its big brother Monte Bello's style with a terrific sense of elegance paired with richness. Lots of crème de cassis, crushed violets, vanilla, tobacco leaf, and cedar notes flow to a medium to full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, layered Cabernet Sauvignon that has terrific purity, building tannins, and a great finish. It offers pleasure today yet won't hit prime time for another 5-7 years, and it's going to evolve for 15-20 years (probably longer). 94+

Ridge Vineyards 2016 Geyserville$39.99–$408.00
Alexander Valley California
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Rating
The 2016 Geyserville is the usual Zinfandel-dominated blend and includes 17% Carignan, 7% Petite Sirah, and 3% Alicante Bouschet. It offers a gorgeous bouquet of ripe red and black cherries, caramelized plums, toasted spices, and exotic flowers. This gives way to a seamless, medium to full-bodied, elegant Geyserville that has plenty of intensity, sweet tannin, and perfect balance. This beauty just glides over the palate and is one of the more approachable vintages of this cuvée I can remember. Nevertheless, it will keep for at least a decade. It's a great wine. SWS

Ridge Vineyards 2016 Lytton Springs$33.95–$203.70
Dry Creek Valley California
Antonio Galloni 95 Rating
The 2016 Lytton Springs is a powerful, dense wine. Black cherry, plum, lavender, new leather, cloves, licorice and menthol flesh out. Deep, plush and richly textured, the 2016 Lytton Springs packs a real punch. The 23% Petite Sirah is felt in the wine's darkness and overall gravitas. There is more than enough richness and structure to support many years of fine drinking. What a gorgeous wine this is.

Riebeek Cellars 2016 Pinotage$12.98–$71.94
Swartland South Africa
The color is an attractive bright, ruby red with a purple rim, typical of a young Pinotage. The flavors of this unique South African cultivar are complex and exciting with ripe plum and fruitcake all beautifully integrated and then finished with subtle oak for a lingering aftertaste.
This wine is lovely with rare beef, barbequed lamb and casseroles. This versatile lighter style of Pinotage is also a lovely combination with spicy chicken.

Roar 2016 Chardonnay Sierra Mar Vineyard$41.99
Santa Lucia Highlands California
Wine Advocate 92+ Rating
The 2016 Chardonnay Sierra Mar is beautifully scented of honey drizzled peaches, key lime pie and pink grapefruit with touches of coriander seed, wet slate and fresh ginger. Full-bodied and full-on seductive in the mouth, the generously fruited palate has a refreshing line to balance plus a gorgeous creaminess texturing the long finish. WBC BX-12
Rober Sabon 2017 Cotes du Rhone by Roger Sabon$15.99–$191.88
Southern Rhone Valley France
Jeb Dunnuck 91 Rating
The 2017 Rhône By Roger Sabon gives up a smoking good bouquet of black raspberries, lavender, herbes de Provence, and exotic spices. It's medium-bodied, rounded, and beautifully made. I'm sure it's a smoking value. WBC

Robert Biale 2013 Like Father Like Son Syrah-Petite Sirah$49.99–$239.94
Napa Valley California
Wine Spectator 94 Rating
Luxuriously textured, this wine combines Petite Sirah, the son, with Syrah, its father. The two get along famously, showing a balance of powerfully soft blue fruit, garrigue and a ring of smoke. Its meatiness will impress, spiced as it is in dried herb and anise. WBC
