Mayacamas 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder
$129.99Happy Canyon Santa Barbara County
Vinous 97 Rating
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a pretty rich, bombastic wine, especially for Mayacamas. A blast of dark fruit, incense, tobacco, licorice, spice and mocha hits the palate. I would give the 2019 at least a few years in bottle to settle down, as it is quite the powerhouse today. This is an unusually flamboyant wine with plenty of richness and a bit less in the way of subtlety. The opulence of the vintage comes through loud and clear. R10-3 -
Mayacamas 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder

The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is nevertheless a beautiful wine. Offering ripe black fruits intermixed with smoky herbs, graphite, and cedar pencils, it has medium-bodied richness, a pure, focused mouthfeel, firm yet integrated tannins, and outstanding length. This structured, Bordeaux-like effort is unquestionably a success in the vintage and should benefit from another 2-3 years of bottle age and shine over the following decade or so. It will be interesting to see if the fruit holds up to the tannins here when all is said and done.

Maynard’s 40 Years Old Aged Tawny Porto
Price range: $129.99 through $690.00Portugal
40 year old tawny is always lovely to drink, as the constituent wines have spent so long in oak barrels that the water content has partially evaporated, concentrating the flavors. This has developed a lovely intense palate with flavors of caramelized nuts and burnt orange rind. There is a high level of acidity which cuts through the richness. Absolutely delicious and good value for the style.

Maynard’s Fine Tawny Porto
Price range: $16.99 through $168.00Portugal
The Maynard's Tawny Port is a blend of selected young ports matured in small oak vats called “pipas”. As a result, they gradually mellow to an amber, Tawny color. Its aroma combines ripe with dry fruits with cinnamon. Ready to drink, this top-quality Tawny goes perfectly with less-sweet desserts. It can also be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif, slightly chilled.

Antonio Galloni 95 Rating
The 2016 Concerto di Fonterutoli, the estate’s blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, is dense, plush and explosive, with superb depth and notable persistence. Super-ripe black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol, licorice and rose petal build in a rich, dramatic wine endowed with superb depth, intensity and pedigree. All the best elements of the house style are on display in this sumptuous, modern Tuscan red. Two thousand sixteen is a terrific vintage for the Concerto. I loved it. R28-3 -

Graphite and lead pencil is coming through, together with violets and blackberries. Some tar and asphalt, too. Full-bodied, yet creamy and crunchy, with agile liveliness that goes on for minutes. Fabulous length. Drinkable already but will age gracefully for decades. SP46-6
