  • San Quirico

San Quirico 2016 Vernaccia di San Gimignano

    $14.99$89.94

    Tuscany Italy
    Share
Certified Organic. Grown in hillside vineyards surrounding the Tuscan town of San Gimignano, this wine is made entirely from Vernaccia grapes. The grapes are chilled immediately following harvest and vinified at low temperatures in cement vats so that the final wine exudes a fresh, lively character. Since the 2004 vintage, this wine has been made from USDA-certified organically grown grapes. In a region of reds, this classically spicy Vernaccia wine shows a different side of Tuscany. Straw yellow in color, gentle floral and citrus aromas complement undertones of stone fruits and fresh herbs. This wine has flavors of lemon zest, sage, and minerality with hints of anise and almonds on the crisp finish. WBC

Smoked hazelnut and rich oak aromas are cut by whiffs of lemon rind, citrus spray, chalk and Asian pear on the nose of this appellation blend. The palate offers both sharp citrus and rounded apple flavors.

Slightly darker in color that most pale-pink rosés, this wine offers aromas of ripe watermelon, strawberry, cherry and red plum, proving quite aromatic. There is great tension to the palate, where zesty citrus and red fruit flavors are fresh and vibrant.
    Must be ordered.

Really bursts with dried lemon, pink grapefruit, Granny Smith apple fruit made even better by a nice dose of stony minerality and a dash of fresh herb. It glides across your palate like silk then finishes brisk and clean and fresh. Great wine for seafood and salads or just to sip. Under-priced for the quality.

  • Saxum 2012 Bone Rock

Saxum 2012 Bone Rock (1.5 lt)

    $349.99

    James Berry Vineyard Paso Robles
    Wine Advocate 96 Rating
The 2012 James Berry Vineyard Bone Rock, a similar blend to the '11, is 92% Syrah, 5% Roussanne and 3% Mourvedre. This cuvee always shows brilliantly from barrel, and this is no exception, with it giving up gorgeous chocolaty dark fruits, white pepper, mint and charred meat-like aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, structured and tight, it has a tad more flesh than the '11 did at this stage, yet will still need short-term cellaring to round into form. It will have upward of two decades of longevity. R14-1

  • Saxum 2012 Booker Vineyard

Saxum 2012 Booker Vineyard (1.5 lt)

    $299.99

    Paso Robles
    Wine Advocate 97 Rating
Even better, and up with the top 2-3 wines in the vintage, the 2012 Booker Vineyard is a blend of 73% Syrah and 27% Mourvedre that saw 30% whole clusters during fermentation and aging in 60% new 350-liter French oak hogsheads. Possessing an insane level of purity and focus, with liquid violets, white chocolate, ground pepper, spice and licorice-laced dark fruit all soaring from the glass, this is a decidedly fresh, focused and elegant example of the vineyard. Nevertheless, it doesn’t skimp on fruit or texture and has awesome depth, richness and length. Like most of these 2012s, it should benefit from short-term cellaring, and knock your socks off over the following decade. R14-1

  • Saxum 2013 Paderewski Vineyard

    Saxum 2012 Paderewski (1.5lt)

    $299.99

    Paso Robles California
    Wine Advocate 96 Rating
Surprisingly tannic and structured for a wine that’s normally the most approachable and sexy, the 2012 Paderewski Vineyard checks in as a blend of 45% Zinfandel, 36% Mourvedre, 12% Tempranillo and 7% Petite Sirah. It possesses the classic chalky minerality of the vineyard to go with exotic perfumed notes of black raspberry, plums, brambly underbrush and assorted background meatiness. This all flows to a full-bodied, elegant and polished wine that has solid mid-palate depth and chewy, firm tannin on the finish. Give this a year or more in the cellar and enjoy bottles through 2024.
