    Ornellaia 2021 Bolgheri Superiore

    Tuscany Italy
    Wine Spectator 98 Rating
An intense red, defined by lively acidity and framed by dense, ripe tannins that showcase its black currant, blackberry, violet and toasty oak aromas and flavors. Iron and wild herb accents emerge as this plays out on the finish. Though expressive at this stage, this youthful version will benefit from time in bottle. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2027 through 2046. SP42-1

Lots of blackberries, dark cherries and hints of orange peel and bark in the aromas. Medium- to full-bodied with fine creamy tannins that caress the palate. The tannic tension gives this focus and brightness. 85% cabernet sauvignon, 9% cabernet franc and the rest petit verdot. Hard not to drink now, but better in two to three years. R38-2 BX-6

The wine is pure straw-yellow color with golden and greenish reflections.Complex aroma of wine is characterized by high intensity. Notes of lemon, lime, grapefruit, green apple stand out shades of white acacia flowers, orange, basil and other aromatic herbs. Clean, elegant, well-structured taste wine shows enticing exotic notes of pineapple and mango, refreshing citrus tones, worse mineral accents. Silky and, at the same time, rich taste completes a long, rounded finish with spicy bitterness. The wine matches perfectly with snacks, seafood, sushi, pasta, fish, rice, white meat.

The 2018 Proprietary Red is a right bank style blend of primarily Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Although Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon makes up over half of the cuvee, the blend does change slightly from year to year. The additions of Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec gives this vintage a bit of power behind the balanced velvety texture. Aromas of dark berries, cedar box, gravel, and a slight hint of dark chocolate continue to develop in the glass over time. Powerful elegance; the palette is centered with big fresh plum, vanilla bean pod, a touch of allspice, and chocolate smoke; followed by controlled tannins. This is a wine designed to push the barriers of complexity. 28 months aging in 100% French Oak. 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet, Franc; 20% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot, 5% Malbec. Only 100 cases produced.
