The saturated purple-hued 2016 Reckoning checks in as 58% Syrah, 18% Malbec, 10% Grenache, 9% Mourvèdre, and the rest Petite Sirah and Viognier. As with most of Brian’s wines, it was raised in around 20% new oak and a mix of 500- and 225-liter barrels. Blackberries, smoked herbs, bacon fat, and some green olive notes all emerge from this beautifully layered, silky, concentrated effort that has no hard edges, sweet tannins, and a great, great finish. It’s one of the gems in the lineup and should easily keep for 7-8 years.
