Description
The Soave Classico “Calvarino” 2024 from Pieropan is an iconic white wine from the heart of the Soave Classico area in Veneto and is considered one of Italy’s first single-vineyard wines. It comes from the historic Calvarino vineyard, owned by the family since 1901. The name “Calvarino” means “little calvary,” referring to the difficulty of working the volcanic basalt soils and accessing the vineyard. The grape varieties Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave define the wine’s character, bringing freshness, minerality and longevity. The grapes come from 30–60-year-old vines grown on volcanic soils at 200–300 meters above sea level. Harvesting is done by hand, often in multiple passes to ensure optimal ripeness. After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures in cement tanks. The wine is aged on fine lees for 12–15 months with bâtonnage, enhancing structure and complexity. In the glass, it shows a straw yellow color with green reflections. On the nose, floral notes combine with yellow fruit, citrus and herbs. On the palate, it is fresh, elegant and mineral, with precise structure, fine acidity and a long finish.
