A soft, smooth and most enjoyable bottle, this shows plenty of well-ripened fruit, from strawberry to raspberry and on into cherry. It spreads out broadly across the palate with a lush coating of caramel and toast. It's so good right now it's hard to advise anything but drink up!

  • Araujo Estate 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard

    $499.99

    Napa Valley California

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon charges from the gate with exuberant red and black cherries notes, black currants and mulberries with a beautiful roses and lavender perfume, plus hints of sandalwood and cinnamon stick. Full-bodied, concentrated and downright explosive in the mouth, it is still wearing loads of gorgeous puppy-fat fruit flavors, offering suggestions of the complex, multilayered blockbuster that it will emerge into. The structure deserves its own mention: wonderful, seamless freshness and oh-so-fine, pixelated tannins, with an extraordinary persistence of fruit and mineral nuances. Wow. R33-2

An elegant blend, Arbalest displays aromas of graphite, minerality, red plums and boysenberries. The integrated tannins show balanced flavors of kirsch, plums, graphite and cassis. With beautiful hints of umami on the mid palate, this savory and fruitful beauty pairs well with pasta, game, meats and cheeses. 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc & 5% Petit Verdot. • Argiolas Costamolino 2022 Vermentino

Vermentino often shows the fragrance of macchia, the mix of evergreen shrubs and herbs that typifies the Sardinian landscape. Costamolino hints at aromas of pine and mint coupled with ripe stone fruit and sweet citrus. The palate is at once vibrant and textural and finishes with lingering acidity.

  • Arietta 2015 Quartet

Tasted after the other 2015s in this range, the Quartet, Arietta's entry-level offering, does not show a demonstrably significant drop in quality, which is probably the highest compliment I can pay it. Hints of raspberry jam, cedar, smoke and licorice add shades of nuance throughout. What a pretty wine this is. PRG
