Podere Castorani 2017 Montepulciano D’Abruzzo Riserva
$34.99 – $324.00Marche Italy
James Suckling 92 Rating
Lots of ripe black fruit with a smoky edge. Dried violets, too. Full-bodied with lots of charred oak to the fruit, but there’s enough blackberry there to give a long, savory fruit finish. No real complexity to the wine, but it’s well constructed. The riserva oak makes it feel bigger than it actually is. Drinkable now, but will hold for a few years, too.

A bright red color, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino is floral and aromatic of preserved strawberries, baby powder, and herbes de Provence. Medium-bodied, it has refined ripe tannins, even acidity, and a clean, stony textured finish. A lovely and charming wine, it’s drinking well now and will drink well over the coming 8-10 years. BX-6 -
Poggio Antico 2021 Madre Toscana
$49.99 – $240.00Tuscany Italy
The nose is delicious if more focused on Tuscan red cherries, strawberries and elderberries with a hint of sweet plums. The palate is fresh but with a good core of density. Some pretty tannins and a fruit-forward finish. Madre can already be enjoyed, but may also be aged for a long time, further improving its characteristics.
