Herman Story Wines 2020 Bolt Cutter
$59.99 – $330.00Paso Robles California
Antonio Galloni 94 Rating
As usual with Herman Story wines, there's nothing shy about this blockbuster blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Petit Verdot, 20% Syrah and 3% Malbec from several vineyards across the Central Coast, with 24 months in 84% new French oak. The 93-94 point raves will emerge as folks get to taste this, with big, plush, mouthfeel nicely balanced by the wine's density and chewy, charmingly rustic, finish. A big wine for big meat over the next decade or so. R4-2

Isole e Olena 2018 Syrah Collezione Privata
$59.99 – $330.00Toscana IGT Tuscany Italy
Antonio Galloni Vinous 96 Rating
The 2018 Syrah Collezione Privata is a wine of extreme purity and nuance. Medium in body and beautifully focused, the 2018 bristles with energy. Blackberry, lavender, spice and espresso all build in the glass. More than anything else, I am so struck by the wine's precision. The 2018 needs a number of years to be at its most expressive. The aromatics especially need to open. And yet all the elements are there. What a wine!

Merryvale 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
$59.99 – $330.00California
Wine Spectator 93 Rating
This is textbook Napa Cabernet—ripe, forthright and well-defined, with cassis, bitter plum and blackberry fruit driving through over a racy graphite hint and lively savory notes. Reveals an alder toast accent on the finish. Rock-solid. Drink now through 2034. 3,516 cases made.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon turned out beautifully. Rich, sumptuous and incredibly alluring, the 2018 will drink well right out of the gate. Dark red fruit, mocha, spice and licorice are some of the notes that build in the glass. I would give it a few years in bottle, or alternatively open it in advance. Aeration and the passage of time did wonders for the 2018. It spent 20 months in barrel, 85% new.

Venge Vineyards 2021 Silencieux Cabernet Sauvignon
$64.99 – $330.00Napa Valley California
The highest quality crop not witnessed in years. I know, I put a lot of eggs in the basket of vintage 2018. However, friends, brace yourself for some delicious, superior quality wines coming from 2021. Across the board—from Chardonnay through to Cabernet Sauvignon— we are looking at magnificent concentrations of color and flavor that forecast a stellar vintage to come.
There is something magical that happens to a vineyard when water is scarce. Cluster sets are reduced naturally, grape size shrinks the skin-to-pulp ratio, and energy is driven to protect the crop that is left. We manually thin in all vintages to balance the ratios on the vine; however, it is Mother Nature’s culling that always works wonders for producing wines of profound resilience. The only downside in this natural selection scenario is crop yield. Vintage 2021 will see significant reductions in yield from 30% to 50% less than normal years. R5-3
