Coming from a vineyard close to Hundred Acre's Few and Far Between vineyard and planted to 85- to 90-year-old vines, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon The Dreamer is made from around 92% Cabernet Sauvignon with a small proportion of unknown red varieties interplanted. Deep garnet-purple in color, it bursts with flamboyant notes of redcurrant preserves, cassis, dark chocolate, violets and red roses, plus fragrant hints of Indian spices and camphor, with a suggestion of iron ore. The medium to full-bodied palate is fabulously velvety, delivering beautiful freshness and loads of spicy layers, finishing very long. SP27-2 -

The Fuligni 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful wine, and it shines a much-deserved spotlight on one of the most consistent estates in Montalcino. It is bright and luminous with a dark ruby shine. The bouquet reveals deeply layered tones of red cherry, wild berry, rose, earth and candied violets. Give the wine an extra twirl or two, and you get some rosemary and lavender. Soft dusty mineral and limestone also appear. I'd definitely put this bottle on a short list of the most recommended bottles from the 2017 vintage. R1-1 -

The 2013 Langhe Freisa Kyè is remarkably polished and, dare I say, elegant, in this vintage. The bombastic style of some years past has been supplanted by a much more silky, perfumed expression of Freisa. Bright, nuanced and finely sculpted, the Kyè offers extraordinary finesse. Lavender, rose petal, sweet red cherry and mint are laced into the exquisite finish. What a gorgeous wine this is. R17-3 -

Here too there is just enough wood to remark upon serving as a backdrop for the more deeply pitched aromas of plum, dark raspberry and warm earth scents. This dusty and delicious effort should also reward up to a decade of cellaring. The palate is full-bodied there’s no arguing otherwise and unfolds with dense, concentrated layers of dark berry liqueur and crushed minerals. Even with such a luxurious, palate-coating mouthfeel, it never loses sight of its blue-blooded Burgundian identity. One for the Burgundy purists. SP4-6 -
