  • Bodegas Breca 2015 Brega

    $29.99$179.94

    Aragon Calatayud Spain
    Jeb Dunnuck 93+ Rating
The top wine, made in tiny quantities, the 2015 Brega comes from the oldest vineyards of the estate (both planted prior to 1911) and is 100% Garnacha brought up all in a mix of new, once- and twice-used barrels. This ripe, incredibly sexy red boasts a deep purple/plum color to go with gorgeous notes of black cherries, chocolate, graphite, and a mineral/scrub brush-like character that develops with time in the glass. Concentrated, fresh, nicely structured, and long, it will benefit from a year or two of bottle age and drink nicely for a decade or more.

I loved the nose on the 2019 Breca, which is loaded with spicy red and black fruits as well as notes of sandalwood, dried flowers, herbes de Provence, and some chalky, mineral-like nuances. Beautiful on the palate as well, this medium to full-bodied, elegant, balanced, straight-up gorgeous Garnacha is best drunk over the coming 3-5 years.

Perfumed yet focused nose with lots of violets and deep but fresh blueberries. Very pure. A mineral undertone makes it quite attractive. It’s dense, medium-to full-bodied and juicy on the palate, packed with silky tannins that are taut and calculated. Youthful and very primary now. Free of oak. Drink from 2023.

  • Bodegas Emilio Moro 2018 Finca Resalso

    $17.99$156.00

    Ribera del Duero Spain
Elaborated from 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grapes. The wine stays four months in French oak barrels before bottling. This wine displays an intense, ripe black cherry color. On the nose, it develops well with ripe red berry hints (mulberry and blackcurrant) intermingled with elegant, balsamic, oaky aromas. On the palate it is powerful with nuances of incense, spice and sweet-tasting cinnamon. This wine combines the sweetness of the ripe tannins with the polyphenolic structure of the Tinto Fino variety. Well balanced, lingering, harmonious and with a lingering finish

Saturated ruby. Spice-accented cherry and blackberry aromas pick up a smoky flourish with air. Juicy and seamless in texture, offering appealingly sweet dark fruit flavors that show good energy and back-end lift. The long, focused finish features silky tannins and a recurring cherry note.

  • Bodegas Muga 2018 Seleccion Especial Tempranillo Blend

    $44.99$468.00

    Rioja Spain
    Wine Advocate 95 Rating
2018 was a cooler vintage, with a fairly long maturation, which made the wines somewhat fresher and less alcoholic, as showcased by the 2018 Selección Especial, a classical blend of the four red varieties from Rioja, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano with contained ripeness (14.05% alcohol) and good freshness. It fermented in oak casks with indigenous yeasts and matured in French oak barrels, 40% of them new, for 26 months. They were not very happy with the vintage and had to sort and discard, but as they didn't produce Prado Enea, Torre Muga or Haro, those grapes went into this wine. They are reluctant about 2018, but I think it was a vintage capable of the best and the worst, and this 2018 is floral, expressive and elegant. It's medium to full- bodied, with very fine, chalky tannins, combining power and elegance. Amazing!

  • Bodegas Muga 2019 Rioja Reserva

    $29.99$324.00

    Rioja Spain
    Wine Advocate 94 Rating
The 2019 Reserva, sold as Crianza in Spain, comes from a dry and warm year with low yields and concentrated wines. The grapes from the Haro zone, the four from Rioja, Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Mazuelo and Graciano fermented destemmed and lightly crushed in oak vats with indigenous yeasts, and 80% of the volume matured in French oak and the rest in Centro European and American oak, 20% of them new, for 22 months, during which time the wine was racked every eight to nine months. This is serious and young but balanced, nuanced and complex. They are shortening the time in oak, as they feel they have better and younger barrels and think the wines need less time in oak and more time in bottle. This is very Muga, very Rioja and very good.
