    Napa Valley California
    Jeb Dunnuck 93 Rating
The 2017 Red Blend O.P.C. checks in as a blend of 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Syrah, 20% Malbec, 12% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot brought up in 60% new French oak. It has a complex, nuanced style in its mulled plums, black tea, peppery herbs, and orange blossom aroma and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, rich and beautifully textured on the palate, with ripe, mouthcoating tannins, it's another terrific 2017 from this team that will evolve for a solid 10-15 years, that is, if you can keep your hands off bottles. Fresh, buoyant, and aromatic, offering lovely red berry fruits on the nose, supported by a lifted floral potpourri character and secondary aromas of stony minerality, crushed earth, and graphite. The palate is lithe and mouth pleasing with a supple texture that provides juicy black currant, cassis, black cherry, and blackberry compote notes alongside savory notes of chaparral sagebrush, dark chocolate, and cedar spice. Lastly, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Dancing Bear Ranch comes from a stunning estate vineyard on Howell Mountain with the plantings dating back to 1999. A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, and a splash of Cabernet Franc, aged in 59% new oak, this beauty reminds me of a great Saint-Julien (Leoville Barton?) with its incredible purity and regal, structured style. Crème de cassis, lead pencil, violets, chalky minerality, and chocolaty oak all emerge on the nose, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel, ripe yet perfectly integrated tannins, and a gorgeous finish. It needs air if drinking any time soon and will ideally be given 4-6 years in the cellar. This beauty will have three decades of overall longevity.
