Full-bodied and grainy, the palate is built like a brick house with super ripe tannins and bags of bold, expressive, multifaceted fruit, finishing very long and mineral-laced. 545 cases were made. That’s not a bad thing – it’s just the winery’s ‘secret Chardonnay.’ It’s never released to the general public or retail, only a few hundred cases are made each year to service the restaurant industry. But luckily for us, I’ve got a restaurant. And while the Sonoma Coast bottling is definitely the ‘calling card’ that you’re used to seeing from this great estate, I’m telling you the Russian River Valley Chardonnay blows that one out of the water. It’s a Nicholas wines all-time favorite.
