A good advertisement for the 2021 vintage in the Rhone this has stacks of red fruit and spice aromas, including a touch of pepper. Notes of licorice and sandalwood on the palate where the restrained tannins neatly fit with the generous fruit. Moderately dry finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.

John Gilman View From The Cellar 92+ Rating
The single vineyard bottling of Franclieu from Jean Manciat is his finest terroir, with these thirty to thirty-five year-old vines planted on argilo-calcaire soils. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and raised in stainless steel tanks until bottling. The 2023 Franclieu is a touch lower in octane than the regular Mâcon-Charnay bottling in this vintage, coming in at 13.5 percent alcohol. It delivers a beautifully precise and more soil-defined bouquet of apple, pear, almond, chalky soil tones and a lovely floral top note redolent of both white lilies and apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, zesty and complex, with a beautiful core of pure fruit, excellent mineral drive and grip, a lovely spine of acidity and a long, pure and impeccably balanced finish. This is outstanding Mâcon and more refined and soil-driven in personality than the regular bottling! 2025-2040.

‘Les Ruisseaux’ Viognier comes from Lieu-dit Le Gat. Whole clusters are pressed gently. Fermented in 50% stainless steel tank and 50% 228L barrels for 4 weeks. Wine finishes malolactic fermentation. Aged in 50% stainless steel tank and 50% 228L barrels for 1 year (no new oak). “Un Ruisseau” means “a stream.” A stream passes next to the vineyard and over many years has moved granite deposits from Saint Joseph to this area.

  • Jean-Louis Chave 2021 Saint-Joseph

    $69.99

    Northern Rhone Valley France
    Decanter Magazine 93 Rating
A tasting of the various constituent lieux-dits revealed that the Bachesson parcel had a peppery side and its characteristic rose scent, and an unmistakably granitic texture. The Chalaix lieu-dit was precise, fine, with no huge concentration but good balance. Lieu-dit Dardouille was looking promising, with good weight and length. The finished blend of the domaine’s St-Joseph is likely to be neat, precise and fresh, with a distinct mineral side, one to drink relatively young. There will be no separate bottling of Clos Florentin this year due to frost. SP36-6 Most stores $99.99

  • Jean-Marc Brocard 2022 Sainte Claire Chablis

    $24.99$264.00

    Burgundy France
    Decanter Magazine 93 Rating
Some of the vines here are over 70 years old. Even with a reticent, understated nose one can sense the energy and precision in this wine. There’s a lovely, creamy texture on the palate, with bright citrus notes and a long, lingering, savoury, mineral finish. A very fine example of Chablis which would compete very effectively against many a premier cru.
