    Decanter Magazine 93 Rating
Sourced from the Jax Estate, a 2.5-hectare site with silty loam soils at the base of Mt. St. Helena in Calistoga, this wine was aged for 22 months in 66% new French oak. A stylish, easy-going red, it showcases lush dark berry fruit and sandalwood character. On the palate, the wine offers a satiny texture with plump, supple tannins, finishing with notes of crushed walnuts and a lingering richness. A nicely composed, high-value red, this bottling reflects Jax’s commitment to quality and accessibility. In 2012, Dan Parrott became a proprietor of the Jax brand and began working alongside winemaker Kirk Venge, further refining the estate’s signature style.

The single vineyard bottling of Franclieu from Jean Manciat is his finest terroir, with these thirty to thirty-five year-old vines planted on argilo-calcaire soils. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and raised in stainless steel tanks until bottling. The 2023 Franclieu is a touch lower in octane than the regular Mâcon-Charnay bottling in this vintage, coming in at 13.5 percent alcohol. It delivers a beautifully precise and more soil-defined bouquet of apple, pear, almond, chalky soil tones and a lovely floral topnote redolent of both white lilies and apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, zesty and complex, with a beautiful core of pure fruit, excellent mineral drive and grip, a lovely spine of acidity and a long, pure and impeccably balanced finish. This is outstanding Mâcon and more refined and soil-driven in personality than the regular bottling! 2025-2040.

‘Les Ruisseaux’ Viognier comes from Lieu-dit Le Gat. Whole clusters are pressed gently. Fermented in 50% stainless steel tank and 50% 228L barrels for 4 weeks. Wine finishes malolactic fermentation. Aged in 50% stainless steel tank and 50% 228L barrels for 1 year (no new oak). “Un Ruisseau” means “a stream.” A stream passes next to the vineyard and over many years has moved granite deposits from Saint Joseph to this area.

    Decanter Magazine 93 Rating
A tasting of the various constituent lieux-dits revealed that the Bachesson parcel had a peppery side and its characteristic rose scent, and an unmistakably granitic texture. The Chalaix lieu-dit was precise, fine, with no huge concentration but good balance. Lieu-dit Dardouille was looking promising, with good weight and length. The finished blend of the domaine’s St-Joseph is likely to be neat, precise and fresh, with a distinct mineral side, one to drink relatively young. There will be no separate bottling of Clos Florentin this year due to frost. SP36-6 Most stores $99.99

Always a good value, the 2018 Todos checks in as a kitchen sink blend of 45% Syrah, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot, 9% Petite Sirah, and the rest Merlot and other miscellaneous varieties. Its inky, glass-staining purple color is followed by a beautiful bouquet of smoked black fruits, bouquet garni, peppered meat, and hints of crushed rock. It’s rich, medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and just a gorgeous wine. SP27-10
