The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Montana, from chalk soils with western-facing exposition, is the most exuberant in terms of its aromatics, with candied flowers, cherry liqueur, sweet tobacco, and graphite. The fruit fills the palate up front and through the mid-palate, with a refreshing spine of acidity and great mineral texture. The tannins are ripe and well-integrated. This is a delicious wine out of the gate and will be worth holding onto and checking in on over the next 20 years. R24-5

Anakota 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley
Price range: $79.99 through $420.00Sonoma California
James Suckling 96 Rating
A classic California cabernet with great structure, abundant black fruit flavors and a lingering finish. This is built for further aging, and its blackcurrant, black cherry and dried blueberry flavors will mature and evolve. Full-bodied, firmly tannic and nicely layered. Drinkable now, but best from 2030.

Gorgeous and seductive, with a rich core of kumquat, melon and lemon verbena. The opulence is balanced and integrated with a fresh beam of acidity that cuts through, plus salted herb notes. Honeyed at the edges and delicious through the long, well-meshed finish. Roussanne and Clairette. Drink now through 2030. 415 cases made, and only 100 cases imported. Most stores $69.99 R15-3

Andre Brunel 2024 Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Est-Ouest
Price range: $16.99 through $168.00Southern Rhone Valley France
The 2024 vintage reveals a radiant character and remarkable intensity. A blend of Grenache and Cinsault, it elegantly expresses crisp red fruit aromas, while Syrah adds structure and depth to the finish. Livelier and subtly textured, this vintage offers a harmonious balance between freshness and body. A red wine that is both indulgent and refined, perfect for sharing moments of enjoyment with ease.

Plenty of fresh fern character to the citrusy fruit on the nose. Medium-bodied with dense lemon-curd and zest, but the more herbal element is always there, as well as a hint of spice. Long finish with a whiff of fresh spearmint coming through. Plenty to enjoy here. Quietly complex.

Deep blackberry, cassis, prune, vanilla and graphite aromas open this powerfully built Malbec that’s fully saturated and fully oaked. Toasty blackberry flavors are distinctly chocolaty on the back side. The wine tastes of black licorice, café mocha and black pepper on the finish. Drink 2023–2030. R30-3 -

This red features an alluring mix of strawberry and cherry fruit combined with tomato leaf, eucalyptus and cast iron. Builds nicely on the palate to the long, complex finish. Dry, dusty tannins linger, along with fruity and savory echoes. Best from 2027 through 2043..

Antinori 2020 Solaia
Price range: $399.99 through $2,100.00Tuscany Italy
Antonio Galloni 97 Rating
The 2020 Solaia is an infant. I expected a more exuberant wine, but the 2020 is built along more classic lines. Black cherry, plum, gravel, incense, smoke, pencil shavings and spice all open effortlessly. As always, Solaia is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine, but it is a Cabernet that is distinctly Italian, with plenty of Tuscan acid and structure driving through the mid-palate and into the finish. The 2020 is a terrific example of the recent stylistic shift at Antinori. In the past, richness and opulence were qualities of a vintage that would have been amplified in the vineyard and cellar. Today, the aim is to capture a more balanced expression of these kinds of vintages, and that very much comes through. SP44-6
