Martinelli 2017 Zio Tony Pinot Noir
$69.99Russian River Valley California
Antonio Galloni 95 Rating
The 2017 Pinot Noir Zio Tony Ranch brings together all the best elements of the Martinelli house style. Sweet dark cherry, plum, spice, lavender, leather and menthol flesh out in the glass. Juicy and voluptuous, yet also medium in body, the 2017 has so much to give in an up-front style that offers tons of near and medium term appeal. SP5-2 -
Three Sticks 2020 Price Family Estates Pinot Noir
$54.99Sonoma Coast California
James Suckling 91 Rating
Rather fruit-forward pinot noir with strawberry, cream and walnut aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, round tannins and a succulent finish. Not the most complex wine, but delicious. Drink now. R1-1 SP5-2 -
Brewer Clifton 2019 Pinot Noir
$36.99Santa Rita Hills California
Wine Enthusiast 94 Rating
For a slightly reduced price, this appellation blend allows fans of this brand to check into the magic that Greg Brewer is up to. The floral nose is redolent of violet and scarlet roses as well as pomegranate and red currant. The palate zings with acidity, presenting bright and fresh flavors of raspberry, citrus rind and herb. -
Kistler 2015 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast
$99.99California
Vinous 91 Rating
Kistler's 2015 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is lifted and gracious, with expressive floral notes and bright red berry fruit. The purity of the flavors is quite remarkable. I thought, and frankly expected, the 2015 to retain a bit more of the exuberance it showed from barrel. Today, the Sonoma Coast Pinot has developed into a wine of finesse and understatement rather than raciness. Even so, it is very pretty. R17-2 SP7-6 -
Hartford Court 2015 Pinot Noir MacLean’s Block Vineyard

Also from the Green Valley portion of the Russian River Valley, from two separate blocks in the vineyard, the 2015 Pinot Noir MacLean's Block offers ample black cherries, exotic darker fruits, some toasty oak, medium to full body, and a lush, rounded, deep style on the palate. This cuvée sees a touch of whole cluster inclusion and is aged in 29% new French oak. Give this savory, rich, concentrated (masculine even) Pinot Noir a few years and enjoy over the following decade. From the oldest vines planted in the 1970s, the 2015 Pinot Noir Arrendell Vineyard is a perfumed, spicy wine that's just singing on the nose. Ripe cherries, raspberries, candied orange, and exotic spices give way to a medium to full-bodied, supple, seamless Pinot Noir. It has bright acidity, sweet, vibrant, fruit, notable tannin, and a great finish. Like a lot of the wines here, it has the fruit to shine, but this is certainly one of the more structured and tannic wines in the lineup. SP7-4 -
Wayfarer 2017 Pinot Noir Wayfarer Vineyard
$89.99Sonoma Coast California
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Rating
The largest production cuvée based on a mix of clones, the 2017 Pinot Noir Wayfarer Vineyard was mostly destemmed and spent 15 months in 50-60% new French oak. It reveals a bright ruby-tinged color and offers a feminine style in its notes of raspberries, flowers, rose hips, and spice. It’s fine, incredibly elegant, has fine tannins, and just glides over the palate. SP7-6 -
Cayuse 2016 Syrah En Cerise Vineyard
$139.99Walla Walla Valley
Jeb Dunnuck 99 Rating
The 2016 Syrah En Cerise Vineyard is another winner (best to date?), showing an incredibly bloody, iron quality as well as beautiful purity in its bright cherry, blackberries, violets, pork fat, and acacia flower aromas and flavors. Seamless, silky, gorgeous, and perfectly balanced, it's another heavenly wine from Baron that’s going to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and cruise for 10-15. R10-1 -
Aperture Cellars 2018 Red Blend
$59.99Alexander Valley California
Wine Advocate 96 Rating
The 2018 Red Blend is composed of 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 22% Malbec, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The nose offers vibrant berry scents with accents of charcuterie, mint chocolate, cigar wrapper, violets and pencil shavings aromas, and the palate is powerful but featherweight, silky and fresh with a very long, layered finish. I love this balance of ripe fruit, mineral nuance, aromatic purity and structural power. This has the potential to grow into even more of a beauty with some time in bottle.
