The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% each of Malbec and Merlot) comes from a handful of sites in the Walla Walla Valley and spent 23 months in 67% new French oak. Classic, old-school notes of blackcurrants, leafy tobacco, earth, saddle leather, and spicy herbs gives way to full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with notable balance, a great mid-palate, ripe yet building tannins, and a great finish. This pure, clean, classic Cabernet will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and keep for 20 years or more. It's beautifully done.

This inky deep purple colored Petite Sirah from Calistoga might be Bob’s best yet. It opens with a mulberry and stewed plum bouquet with hints of sweet black olive, dark chocolate, espresso, and baking spice. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is well-balanced, smooth, velvety, and supple. The flavor profile is a loam and black raspberry blend with notes of minerality, oak, anise, and blueberry. We also detected hints of nutmeg and dark chocolate. The finish is dry, and its grippy tannins are very prolonged. Medium-bodied yet very concentrated, it has a powdery frame, sparks of refreshing acidity and a very long, graphite-driven finish. Precise and detailed, it deserves to spend another 2-3 years in bottle.

I loved the nose on the 2019 Breca, which is loaded with spicy red and black fruits as well as notes of sandalwood, dried flowers, herbes de Provence, and some chalky, mineral-like nuances. Beautiful on the palate as well, this medium to full-bodied, elegant, balanced, straight-up gorgeous Garnacha is best drunk over the coming 3-5 years.

The base 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is terrific, and while I don’t know the price, I suspect it’s a great value. Deep purple-hued, with terrific mulled currant and blackberry fruits, it has lots of ripe herbal, chocolaty spice notes, full-bodied richness, sweet tannins, and a great finish. This is pure Napa Valley goodness to drink over the coming 10-15 years.
