Price range: $29.99 through $150.00Bordeaux France
Jeb Dunnuck 93 Rating
The 2020 Clos Du Roy offers up a pure, beautifully clean bouquet of ripe black cherries, plums, tobacco, and cedary spices. This carries to a medium to full-bodied Fronsac with a balanced, layered mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. It’s a stunning Fronsac to enjoy over the coming 10-15 years. SP51-4

Clos du Val 2024 Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley
Price range: $39.99 through $180.00California
The Tasting Panel 95 Rating
Hand-picked fruit is fermented in 1/3 neutral barrels, 1/3 new barrels and 1/3 stainless steel. “The Sauvignon grapes are happy in barrels,” notes winemaker Carmel Greenberg. Additionally, the wine spent six months on its lees and then was blended before bottling. Aromas of tarragon and dill are fresh and invigorating. The use of some Sémillon adds notes of nectarine blossom that softens the tart nature of lemon rind. A Sauvignon Blanc with some weight is successful when it also shows vibrancy, as does this expressive white.

Clos Henri 2024 Otira Glacial Stones Sauvignon Blanc
Price range: $29.99 through $300.00Marlborough New Zealand
Wine Advocate 96 Rating
The 2024 Otira Glacial Stones Sauvignon Blanc is just such a fantastic wine. I love it every year. Mineral tension, poise and elongated shape are the hallmarks of this wine. The wine has a smell of fresh sheets, crisp, crushed shells, white spice and ocean air. I appreciate the length and stretch of this wine—it fully extends and lingers, and there is a textural pulsing and undulation. It is truly excellent. 2024 was a warm vintage and produced wines of amplitude and volume, yet here the terroir has compressed the fruit into its own shape. So, with the coupling of the season and the terroir, we have this. It’s a triumph among triumphs. The numbers of this wine are mad/impressive to behold: very low pH (2.97), a good level of total acidity (6.5) and 14% alcohol. Years of high-density planting and organic management (since 2010, certified 2013) in this place has enabled a wine of balance to achieve these numbers. Sealed under Diam.

Intense and aromatic, with so much texture to it. Notes of dried lemons, dried herbs, pears, blanched almonds and anise. Full-bodied with a well-rounded, suave and ample development on the palate. Plenty of dried herb character and vibrant spices. Creamy but agile. Drink or hold.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Clos Marsalette leaps from the glass with bold notes of stewed black plums, ripe blackberries and mulberries, plus hints of bay leaves, crushed rocks and damp soil. The full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating black fruits with lovely freshness and loads of earthy accents coming through on the long, plush-textured finish. R11-2 -
Clos Mogador 2022 Priorat
Price range: $119.99 through $600.00Spain
Wine Advocate 97 Rating
Their single-vineyard 2022 Clos Mogador, their flagship wine, was produced with a blend of grapes, mostly Garnacha and Cariñena but also some Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon (less and less, as they are regrafting most of them). It has a very Mediterranean nose with plenty of dry hay and straw notes, the classical wet slate notes, very Priorat too, and it has a round palate and very fine, chalky tannins. It’s serious and harmonious and feels relaxed, without any excess.

Clos Pegase 2022 Mitsuko’s Vineyard Chardonnay
Price range: $24.99 through $120.00Carneros Napa Valley California
Enjoyabilityfactor 92 Rating
The Mitsuko’s Chardonnay is a beautiful clear lemon color in the glass. With vibrant aromas of toasted oak, ripe melon, pear and bakers spice. On the palate, the bright acidity lends a refreshing quality to the wine, supported by fruit flavors of peach, cantaloupe and a touch of citrus. The oak integrates well, adding dimension to the wine, bringing in toasted coconut, brioche and custard. Well balanced and lower in alcohol, this wine is intense, complex and delicious.

Clos Saint Jean 2018 Chateauneuf Du Pape La Combe Des Fous
$149.99Southern Rhone Valley France
Jeb Dunnuck 98 Rating
The star of the show in 2018 is the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Combe Des Fous, which has an incredible mix of complexity, power, and elegance that’s something to behold. Sporting a deep purple/plum color as well as a killer bouquet of blackcurrants, lavender, peppery garrigue, graphite, and white chocolate, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless, multi-dimensional texture, incredible tannins, and a gorgeous finish. This is as good as 2018 gets, and while it’s already impossible to resist, it’s going to evolve for 15+ years. SP34-4
