Chateau Lafon-Rochet 2020 Saint-Estephe
$55.99Bordeaux France
Vinous 96 Rating
The 2020 Lafon-Rochet represents the essence of classicism in Bordeaux. Medium in body and finely-cut, Lafon-Rochet is one of the classiest, more refined Saint-Estèphes readers will come across. Dark fruit, earthiness, lavender, licorice, menthol and cloves add nuance, but it is the wine’s balance and vibrancy that impress most. Give the tannins a few years to melt away. Superb. Best after 2030. SPBX-6 -

Rockpile Winery 2016 Zinfandel Rockpile Ridge Vineyard
$54.99Sonoma County California
Wine Advocate 94 Rating
“Sixty-five percent of the vines planted in Rockpile are Zinfandel,” says Clay Mauritson. “What’s gotten lost in that narrative is how unbelievable Cabernet Sauvignon is in Rockpile. It has a lot of similarities to places like Napa.” Deep ruby-purple in color, the 2016 Rockpile Cabernet Sauvignon Rockpile Ridge Vineyard is blended of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Malbec, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, aged 20 months in French oak. It has a nose with red and black cherries and currants, milk chocolate, star anise, cardamom, cedar and touches of minerals and beef drippings. Medium to full-bodied, it’s very plush and spicy in the mouth with tons of baby fat fruit, segueing to mineral and licorice notions. It has a firm frame of chalky tannins and good freshness to lift the long, layered finish. Leave this in the cellar for another three to five years and drink it over the next 20+. R45-2 -

Heitz 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon
$54.99Napa Valley California
James Suckling 94 Rating
A pure, balanced and fresh Napa cabernet that is not just showing heady concentration and dark fruit. Here you get some violets, nimble flowers, redcurrants, graphite and fine spices. Some oranges, too. Fragrant and nuanced. Medium to full body with tight yet refined tannins. Rather linear, tense and elegant, but lacking neither power nor definition. Better to give it a few years to deliver more complexity. R39-6 BX-12 -

Long Shadows 2019 Sequel Syrah
$54.99Columbia Valley
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Rating
The 2019 Syrah Sequel is a big, rich, meaty, powerful beauty offering copious amounts of ripe black fruits as well as ground pepper, chocolate, graphite, and spicy oak all soaring from the glass. It packs a punch, as always, with its ripe, sexy style, yet it shows the cooler, elegant style of the vintage beautifully and is balanced, has ripe tannins, and a great finish. It’s going to cruise for 10-12 years in cold cellars. regular $64.99 R14-4 -

Dark and winey, this structured offering packs red and black currant paste flavors together with threads of charcoal, warm stone, bay leaf and savory, ending with a long tug of cast iron through the finish. Pecchenino 2018 San Giuseppe Barolo
$54.99Piedmont Italy
Jeb Dunnuck 93 Rating
Smoky incense lifts from the 2018 Barolo San Giuseppe, followed by notes of palo santo, sage, and red cherry. Medium bodied on the palate, with fine but present tannins and notes of pomegranate, tea leaf, and orange rind, it is attractive and structured for the vintage. Drink 2025-2040. SP42-6 -

Lancaster Estate 2018 Winemaker’s Cuvee
$54.99Alexander Valley California
Wine Advocate 93 Rating
The 2018 Winemaker's Cuvee is a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. Medium ruby, it has pretty scents of Morello cherries, cigar box, lavender and pencil shavings. The full-bodied palate is approachable straight from the bottle, with grainy tannins, refreshing acidity and a long, mineral-laced finish. SP11-3 -

Famille Perrin 2019 Gigondas Clos des Tourelles
$54.99Veneto Italy
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Rating
All Grenache that was vinified in tank and brought up in tronconique wooded tank, the 2019 Gigondas Clos Des Tourelles is up there with the top vintages of this cuvée and is well worth seeking out. Roughly 60% destemmed, it has a core of black raspberry fruit as well as lots of ground pepper, spice, violets, and floral notes in its full-bodied, ultra-fine, pure, seamless style. It’s a heavenly Gigondas that will evolve for 15-20 years if stored correctly. R29-2
