This was tasted as a barrel sample. A blend of Bordeaux varieties, the 2017 M by Marciano has a deep garnet-purple color and comes strutting out of the glass with the most gorgeous perfume of lilacs, red roses and baking spices, over a core of warm cassis, blackberry pie and preserved blueberries with wafts of pencil shavings and black loam. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is elegantly crafted with a quiet intensity and compelling tension, textured with beautifully fine-grained tannins, finishing long and fragrant. SP11-1 -

Lots of depth here, with ripe blackberries and some nicely baked black cherries, roasted herbs, incense, dark spices, mussels and a balsamic tinge. An admirably fine dollop of tannins on the palate, which are immaculate and juicy, as they thoroughly dunk into the black fruit, melting into a persistent finish that lasts for over a minute. The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon continues to become more and more refined with time in bottle. Silky, wonderfully perfumed and nuanced, the 2016 is exceptionally beautiful. This is such a striking and vivid wine with tons of mountain character and pedigree to burn.

The only Syrah that includes some Viognier, the 2017 Syrah Cailloux Vineyard (this is the same site used for the Viognier) is always a great representation of the vintage as well as the wines of Christophe Baron. Ruby/purple-hued, with a rocking bouquet of black raspberries, smoked game, black pepper, and spring flowers, it has plenty of classic Rocks funkiness and meaty notes, medium to full body, a core of sweet fruit, and a great, great finish. It ranks with the top two to three wines in this vintage. It opens up nicely with time in the glass and shows well today, and it’s certainly going to cruise for 15+ years or more. R27-2 -

Full, firm and decadently fruited, it has a fantastic foundation and very long, layered and expressive finish. Moderately high tannins but beautiful sweetness and fruit. The stunning 2013 Eternity Proprietary Red wine is obviously a Bordeaux blend. It reveals unsmoked cigar tobacco and licorice, Christmas fruitcake, cedar wood and plenty of blackberry and cassis fruit along with a full-bodied palate. The oak is well-disguised by the wine’s lavish concentration and intensity. It should drink beautifully for another 20+ years. SP28-7 -
