Casanova di Neri 2015 Brunello di Montalcino
$79.99Tuscany Italy
James Suckling 94 Rating
There’s beauty and drinkability to this wine that really is enticing with blueberry and cherry aromas, as well as hints of hot stone and licorice. Medium to full body, integrated tannins and a fresh and polished finish. Shows focus and brightness. Very drinkable now, but better in a year or two. Try in 2021. R13-2 SP44-1 -
Casanova di Neri 2012 Brunello di Montalcino
$69.99Tuscany Italy
Wine Spectator 95 Rating
Effusive aromas and flavors of raspberry, cherry, floral, mineral and tobacco are at the center of this linear, vibrant red. Well-structured, this offers terrific length on the sinewy finish. Best from 2020 through 2035. SP42-4 -
Caparzo 2014 Brunello di Montalcino
$49.99Tuscany Italy
Wine Spectator 92 Rating
Bright, with cherry and raspberry fruit, this Brunello is elegant and charming. Accents of mineral and peppery greens—arugula, mizuna—develop on the lingering aftertaste. Best from 2021 through 2032. SP45-2 -
Cantina del Taburno 2015 Bue Apis Aglianico del Taburno
$119.99Campania Italy
The Bue Apis is produced exclusively from grapes Aglianico from a century-old vineyard located in the district “Pantanella” at about 1000 meters from the Taburno cellar. This testifies to the ancient vineyard presence of Aglianico the slopes of Mount Taburno. The vinification of grapes from it obtained, the so-called original clone Aglianico bitter, is one of the paths that the Cantina del Taburno has undertaken to highlight the extraordinary potential of this ancient grape variety. Saxum 2016 James Berry Vineyard
$199.99Willow Creek District Paso Robles California
Jeb Dunnuck 100 Rating
I tasted the 2016 James Berry Vineyard out of barrel and it’s a smokin’ blend of 55% Grenache, 24% Mourvèdre, 13% Syrah and 8% Counoise that saw 24% whole clusters and aging mostly in barrel. Black raspberry and cassis intermixed with notions of mint, violets/spring flowers and pepper give way to a sensationally layered, full-bodied, gorgeous red that has excellent freshness and a great, great finish. While this cuvée has leaned towards to the more elegant side of the spectrum over the past 6-7 years, this is a return to the richer, more blockbuster style versions, and I think it’s better for it. Caterwaul 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon
$59.99Napa Valley California
This vintage of Caterwaul expresses an impressive array of decadent fruit, exotic spice, and mouth-watering structure. In the glass, the wine exhibits a completely opaque, deep purple hue with a dark violet halo. Aromas swell from the glass in waves of black cherry, plum reduction, aromatic wood, eucalyptus, and pine bough. The palate is marked by a very sleek, polished mouthfeel. Complex notes of roasted meat, cassis, quince, macerated blackberry, and nutmeg are intricately layered, framed by a complimentary acidity. This wine offers a wealth of pure Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon character that is readily accessible today and should age well in the cellar for decades. R31-6 -
Massolino 2013 Barolo
$49.99Piedmont Italy
Wine Enthusiast 95 Rating
Beguiling scents of fragrant berry, rose petal, baking spice, new leather and aromatic herbs swirl around in the glass. The vibrant palate is loaded with finesse, doling out morello cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and star anise, while polished tannins and bright acidity provide impeccable balance. It's just gorgeous and while it's already accessible, it also shows midterm aging potential. SP47-1 -
Luigi Einaudi 2013 “Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi” Barolo
$69.99Piedmont Italy
Decanter Magazine 95 Rating
Though Terlo is predominantly east facing, Einaudi's Costa Grimaldi vineyard curves southward, creating a southeastern exposure. The wine is aged in a combination of medium-toast French barriques, 10% new, and five hectolitre French and Austrian casks. Smoky and grilled at first, it then opens up to reveal enticing black pepper, graphite and fragrant black tea nuances. It is concentrated and layered without being heavy, and the fruit is supported by firm, confident tannins. SP45-1 -
