  • Chave 2019 Hermitage Blanc

    $319.99

    Northern Rhone Valley France

Another incredible white from this family is the 2019 Hermitage Blanc, a powerful, concentrated, and remarkably pure Hermitage that has laser-like focus as well as textbook Marsanne notes of quince, green almond, powdered rock, licorice, and spice. It’s still tight, focused, and inward at present, yet it reminds me of the 2018 with its purity and rare mix of power and elegance. It’s worth trying a bottle any time over the coming 3-5 years, but after that, I’d recommend waiting until after 2031. R43-2

  • Jean-Louis Chave Selection 2018 Crozes-Hermitage Silene

    $34.99

    Northern Rhone Valley France
    Vinous 93 Rating
Inky ruby. Pungent, mineral-accented black and blue fruit qualities on the nose, along with hints of olive, licorice and peony that build in the glass. Supple and weighty on the palate, offering expansive blackberry and boysenberry flavors that become firmer with air. The floral note comes back strong on the penetrating finish, which shows outstanding persistence and fine-grained, well-knit tannins. 60% of this fruit was sourced from the granitic soils and steep slopes in the northern sector of the appellation and the other 40% came from the south, where the soils are lighter, based mostly on limestone clay and covered in large alluvial stones and smaller river rocks. • Opus One 2019 Red

    $349.99

    Napa Valley California
    James Suckling 99 Rating
The purity of fruit is really something else here, with currants and fresh flowers, such as violets and roses. Flower stems as well. Fantastic length and structure to the wine, with tightness and focus. Wonderful fruit. Graceful. A blend of 78% cabernet sauvignon, 8% merlot, 7% petit verdot, 6% cabernet franc and 1% malbec. Try after 2028. SPBX-6 SP13-3

  • Merry Edwards 2015 Pinot Noir

    $64.99

    Russian River Valley California
    Wine Enthusiast 95 Rating
Made from grapes sourced from several sites across the appellation, this shows deft winemaking skill in its velvety, gritty texture and beautiful aromas and flavors of cured meat, rose petal and Asian five spice. Bright acidity lifts the tones of cranberry, rhubarb and mushroom earthiness, with a touch of crushed stone. R25-2

  • Epoch Estate Wines 2016 Authenticity Red

    $79.99

    Paso Robles California
    Jeb Dunnuck 98 Rating
The 2016 Authenticity checks in as 89% Syrah and 11% Mourvèdre that spent 19 months in 70% new French oak. It's always the most powerful, opulent wine in the lineup, and the 2016 is no exception, revealing a deep purple/blue color as well as a heavenly bouquet of black and blue fruits, crushed violets, graphite, liquid rocks, and chocolate. With full-bodied richness, a building sense of meatiness, ample tannins, and a huge finish, it's another magical wine from this estate that needs to be tasted to be believed. SP26-5

  • Tensley 2016 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard

    $69.99

    Santa Barbara County California
    Jeb Dunnuck 97 Rating
From the estate vineyard located high up in the hills above Los Olivos, the 2016 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard has an exotic, beautifully pure bouquet of blueberries, wild strawberries, crushed violets, menthol, and cracked pepper. One of the more pure, elegant and ethereal examples of this Syrah I can recall, it's a sensational, incredibly compelling, weightless beauty that does everything right. It too can shine today yet has the capacity to age gracefully for 10-15 years. SP19-2

  • Stolpman Vineyards 2017 Estate Grown Hilltops Syrah

    $49.99

    Ballard Canyon Santa Barbara County
    Antonio Galloni 93 Rating
The 2017 Syrah Estate Grown is absolutely gorgeous. Fresh, floral and wonderfully perfumed, the Estate expresses all the best vintage had to offer. Sweet floral, spice and dried herbs are beautifully laced into a core of dark Syrah. Not only is the Estate a terrific example of the year, it also captures the interplay of rich fruit and more savory notes that is so typical of the best Ballard Canyon Syrahs. The 2017 is simply compelling. That's all there is to it. SP20-5

Opaque ruby. Floral aromas of black raspberry and cherry pit, with complicating spicecake and mineral nuances. Round and fleshy on entry, then more energetic in the mid-palate, offering vibrant red and dark berry flavors with no rough edges. This seamless, sweet blend finishes with excellent vivacity and terrific length. SP20-2
