Alban Vineyards 2019 Syrah Lorraine Alban Estate Vineyard
$199.99Edna Valley California
Jeb Dunnuck 99 Rating
The 2019 Syrah Lorraine is ultra-classic and is about as textbook an example of this cuvée as I can recall. Black raspberries, cassis, spring flowers, and baking spices all flow to a full-bodied, round, velvety textured, utterly seamless Syrah with ripe tannins, a great mid-palate, and a gorgeous finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. It’s impossible to resist today (and I see no need to delay gratification), yet it will continue to deliver the goods any time over the coming 20-25 years. SP15-6 -
Alban Vineyards 2023 Viognier
$29.99Central Coast California
Jeb Dunnuck 93 Rating
All from the estate and brought up in a mix of tank, oak, and terra-cotta, the 2023 Viognier Central Coast has a lively, perfumed nose of ripe stone fruits, brioche, apricot, and savory flower notes with a textured style. This rich, concentrated, food-driven beauty will shine on the dinner table. -
Ridge Vineyards 2019 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Bello Vineyard
$69.99Santa Cruz Mountains California
Decanter Magazine 96 Rating
True to the vineyard’s mountain site, up to 814m (2,670ft} in altitude, exposed to the cold Pacific, the wine has vivid cassis purity and a touch of green sage. 16 months in 58% new American oak may have rounded the edges of the wine, but none of that oak shows up in the wine’s flavor—exquisite structure and balance. Ridge’s Estate Cabernets come from old blocks in the Monte Bello Vineyard, but blocks that Paul Draper and John Olney feel tend to produce a wine that’s more accessible young than the blocks used for Ridge’s top wine, Monte Bello. Be that as it may, the Estate Cabernet blend comprised of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot and 1% Petite Verdot drinks like a sophisticated ageworthy wine. R11-5 -
Castiel Estate 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain
$189.99Napa Valley California
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Rating
Coming from two sites on Howell Mountain, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a brilliant effort that readers should jump on if given the chance. Classic mountain aromatics of black fruits, tobacco, chocolate, and mineral-like nuances define the bouquet, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered mouthfeel, plenty of tannins, and a great finish. The balance is terrific, and this will benefit from just a few years of bottle age and should have 20-25 years of overall longevity. R37-4 -
Silver Oak 2019 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
$139.99California
James Suckling 95 Rating
So elegant, supple and silky, this vintage is a dream to drink now, but should also have plenty of life ahead of it. Aromas of blueberries and dark chocolate meld with luxe black fruit, mint and cocoa on the palate. A blend of 77% cabernet sauvignon, 18% merlot and dashes of cabernet franc and petit verdot. R4-1 -
Horsepower Vineyards 2020 Syrah The Tribe Vineyard

This Tribe called best Syrah is positively hunger-inducing. The wine’s medium-rare steak with herb butter aroma is joined by notes of blackberry compote and fresh-mowed hay. Pie cherry, smoky lapsang souchang tea and bacon fat flavors continue the theme. Surprisingly electric acidity is the equal of all that fruit, along with fine-grained tannins. SP24-2 -
Castello di Neive 2018 Barbaresco
$39.99Piedmont Italy
Wine Enthusiast 95 Rating
Fragrant and loaded with finesse, this radiant red has enticing aromas of red berry, violet, camphor and spice. Elegantly structured, the vibrant, full-bodied palate features crushed raspberry, strawberry compote, star anise and cinnamon alongside taut, polished tannins. Bright acidity keeps it well-balanced and energized. Drink now–2033. SP45-6 -
Antinori 2021 Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore
$159.99 – $840.00Bolgheri Italy
Antonio Galloni 98 Rating
The 2021 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso is a very beautiful wine, but also quite a departure from the style that made it famous years ago. Readers will find an especially polished Guado al Tasso, a wine that emphasizes finesse more than power. Silky tannins wrap around a core of black cherry fruit, licorice, spice, mocha and new leather. Bright, saline undertones extend the exquisite finish. There’s more Cabernet Franc in the blend these days, and that very much comes through in the wine’s crazy aromatic presence and feel. The 2021 spent 16 months in wood, three months in used French oak barrels during the malolactic fermentation and then 14 months in barrel (80% new) for the rest of its aging. Gorgeous.
