$49.99Jumilla Spain
Vinous 94 Rating
The 2021 Clio is a blend of 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from the 1936-planted Zingla Vineyard in Jumilla. Aged for 23 months in French and American oak, this garnet-hued wine offers complex aromas of herbs and plums, complemented notes of mint, balsamic and ash. Concentrated and rich on the palate, it flows with a silky texture, culminating in a velvety finish. This is a ripe, sun-kissed red with a precisely executed barrel-aging regimen. SP40-11 -
Domaine du Pegau 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape
$89.99Southern Rhone Valley France
James Suckling 95 Rating
This has so much power and meaty depth for the 2021 vintage, also stacks of healthy tannins that give it great intensity at the very long and complete finish. It’s packed with licorice, tar and stony character that makes it hard to pull yourself away from its compelling hold. Drinkable now, but best from 2025. R44-1 -
Sine Qua Non 2022 Grenache Distenta IV
$299.99Central Coast California
Jeb Dunnuck 98 Rating
Moving to the reds from barrels, the 2022 Grenache Distenta IV is another ripe, opulent, sexy wine in the vintage that’s going to check in near the top of the scale. Black raspberries, ground pepper, herbes de Provence, and sandalwood are just some of its nuances, and it’s full-bodied, rich, concentrated, and velvety textured on the palate. It’s a stunner of a wine based on 78% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 7.3% Mourvedre, and the rest Petite Sirah and white varieties. R42-3

Sine Qua Non 2022 Syrah Distenta IV
$299.99Central Coast California
Jeb Dunnuck 98 Rating
Incorporating 6% Grenache, 5% Petite Sirah, 3% Mourvèdre, and 3% white varieties, the 2022 Syrah Distenta IV is another ripe, layered, full-bodied 2022 that’s going to deliver the goods. Ample blue fruits, kirsch liqueur, pepper, and tons of spicy notes all shine here, and this puppy has a layered, velvety mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, no hard edges, and awesome length. It’s going to shine right out of the gate and is a good counterpoint to the more focused, cooler styled 2021s. R38-4

Palmaz Vineyards 2019 Chardonnay Amalia Napa Valley
$59.99California
The 2019 vintage of Amalia Chardonnay is the epitome of summer. Hints of honeysuckle and kiwi rise from the glass as you swirl. Unlike its namesake, the Amalia Chardonnay is shy at first. But soon it becomes synonymous with the Palmaz matriarch, warm and inviting. Meyer lemon rind and hints of tropical banana balance seamlessly with a full-bodied mouthfeel and well-integrated oak. Will do lovely with age, but don’t fret if you open a bottle now, the wine would be a perfect finishing touch to any summer gathering. R13-1

Palmaz Vineyards 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
$129.99California
Shy at first, the 2019 Palmaz Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine that takes its time to show its true characteristics. Dark fruit and toasted oak explode from the glass to invite you in. Once the wine opens up, currants, smoky oak and bold tannins round out a luscious mid-palate. Patience is key for the 2019 vintage, revealing more complexity as it opens up in the glass. The wine’s long finish leaves a hint of toasted caramel on the good-bye. A Cabernet braised steak or grilled tomahawk would be a perfect companion to this bold beauty. Anticipate the wine to age elegantly through 2030. R5-1

The perfect 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon checks in as 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Merlot, all of which spent 22 months in 80% new French oak. The idea of this release is to showcase fruit from throughout the valley, and to say that winemaker Chris Carpenter succeeded would be an understatement. It boasts off-the-charts richness and depth as well as notes of cassis, toasted spices, graphite, tobacco, and espresso, with perfectly integrated oak. Inky purple-hued, full-bodied, voluptuously textured, and flawlessly balanced, it can be drunk any time over the coming 25 years or more. Drink 2023-2048. R9-1
