The wine “Cuvée Vin’ature 2020” from Château Vignobles Raguenot is a red produced in the Blaye-Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation. This wine embodies the expression of the diverse terroir of Blayais and Bourgeais, located on the right bank of the Gironde. The 2020 vintage is known for its generous maturity, offering silky tannins and a beautiful aromatic concentration. The region benefits from a moderate oceanic climate and clay-limestone soils, ideal for producing balanced and fruity wines. Vignobles Raguenot, with its family heritage and commitment to quality, has been known for making wines that respect the terroir for several generations. No additional sulfites were added to this wine.

  • Roger Neveu & Fils 2023 Sancerre Cuvee Pierre Francois Xavier

Roger Neveu & Fils 2023 Sancerre Cuvee Pierre Francois Xavier

    Price range: $34.99 through $348.00

    Loire Valley France
Assembled in great years from the Neveu family’s best parcels around Verdigny, Chavignol, and Sancerrre, “PFX”—as the “Pierre François Xavier” bottling is affectionately known by the family—is raised in oak rather than stainless steel (the former being the historical norm in Sancerre). The three principal terroirs of Sancerre are incorporated: terres blanches, silex, and caillottes. Caillottes are the small, sharp limestone rocks that litter the surface of many Sancerre vineyards, including the Neveu family’s largest vineyard, “Les Embouffants.” The oak adds a grain and level of class and backbone that raises this cuvée a step above the domaine’s classic Sancerre bottling. PFX ages more slowly and gracefully than most Sancerres, and it makes a great cellar diversification play.

Cool initial suggestions of lime, chalk, and buttered toast make way for decidedly sunny aromas of yellow apple, Anjou pear, peach and pluot sprinkled with white flowers. Making a luxurious texture in perfect balance with moderately tangy acidity, the fruit takes on a bit of a honeyed tropical cast in the mouth, with pineapple and mango ushering in a finishing dash of earthy lemon pepper on the long, fresh finish. The effect is effortlessly stylish.

Saint Cosme's 2018 Gigondas is a blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 14% Syrah and 1% Cinsault, aged in a combination of new and used oak, with 30% of the volume matured in concrete. Full-bodied and generous, it's round and supple, with no hard edges to hamper the easy flow of asphalt, red raspberries and black cherries across the palate. Boasting ample but not excessive concentration, it's a lovely, seductive example of Gigondas to enjoy over the next decade or so. SP38-10

Vivid ruby. A highly fragrant bouquet evokes candied red fruits, smoky minerals and lavender; a spicy nuance builds as the wine opens up. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, juicy raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors show good heft, seamless texture and real energy. It finishes spicy and impressively long, with sneaky tannins adding a final grip. This is shaping up to be a highly impressive entry-level bottling, which is not surprising given that this is the only Gigondas that will be bottled this year, so all the juice from the Louisiane and Souteyrades is going into this wine. Get it, lots of it, if you can. Raised in neutral, 50 hectoliter oak foudres. R5-2

The first Vacqueyras I’ve tasted from this brilliant Gigondas estate, the 2022 Vacqueyras has pure red and black fruits as well as textbook spicy herbs, pepper, and savory flower aromas and flavors. It’s concentrated, medium to full-bodied, has plenty of mid-palate depth, and outstanding length. I’d happily be a buyer. SP36-6

The bottle begins with showing an intense ruby color. On the nose and palate – a world of morello cherries, rich spices, and a touch of mint create a complexity that’s rounded out with a long finish, lingering spice, and melted tannins.
