The 2016 Chardonnay CIX Estate is beguiling in its complexity and singularity, offering up scents of smoked nuts, waxed lemons, crushed rocks and coriander seed with hints of crusty bread, honeysuckle, baked peaches and clover honey. Full-bodied, full-on creamy and densely laden with layers of citrus and savory flavors, it has just enough freshness and wonderful length. R36-1

    Auros 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon

    $29.99$150.00

    Napa Valley Calfornia
Auros is crafted with hand-selected fruit from a combination of vineyard blocks in three revered Napa Valley sub-appellations: Oak Knoll, Oakville, and Stag’s Leap. The grapes for the 2016 Auros Cabernet Sauvignon were hand-picked and hand-sorted, then briefly cold soaked to enhance the extraction of vivid color from the Cabernet fruit. Following a warm fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the juice was kept in contact with the skins for two weeks to build rich, soft tannins in the wine. Malolactic fermentation further softened the mouthfeel. This Cabernet was aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, adding rich notes of vanilla and spice to the final blend. This deeply concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon opens with dark fruit aromas of cassis, blackberry, and dried blueberry, underscored by notes of violet and graphite. The rich, full-bodied palate unveils opulent layers of black currant jam, roasted coffee, tobacco, dried fig, and vanilla bean. Soft, supple tannins frame a plush, velvety finish.

    Austin Hope 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon

    $49.99

    Paso Robles California

Vintner Austin Hope, whose family is intertwined in the rise of Paso Robles, spent years working to release a wine of this caliber. Dark and thick in the glass, aromas of black currant and blueberry meet with roasted coffee, chocolate syrup and baked plum on the wondrous nose. The palate is soft and extremely expressive, with blueberry, black pepper, firm mid-palate tannins and a finish that's redolent of cappuccino candies.

The 2013 Pinot Noir Roberts Road, another Sonoma Coast wine, was one of my two favorites of the entire grouping. It offers lush, sweet red and black cherry notes, some red currants, medium to full body and a nice, lusty, slightly herbaceous but lush finish, with some light toast from the oak aging. It should drink well for 4-5 years. R7-3

Auteur 2013 Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir

    $49.99

    Yamhill-Carlton District Oregon
    Share
From one of the most prestigious vineyards in New World Pinot Noir, placing it squarely among the elite terroirs, Shea Vineyards consists of 140 dry farmed hillside acres located in Oregon’s sub-appellation, Yamhill-Carlton. Yamhill-Carlton is situated in a rainshadow where storms often miss, leaving excellent dry conditions for Pinot Noir. The soil is characterized by shallow sedimentary Willakenzie topsoil over fractured sandstone subsoil. These soils tend to display darker fruit with concentrated blackberry and plum highlighted with notes of earth, pepper and minerals. MH-3

Lastly, the 2014 Pinot Noir Labyrinth Vineyard is from an organically farmed Green Valley site planted in Goldridge soils in 1999. It is made 100% from the Pommard selection and saw 75% new French oak for 16 months prior to bottling. The wine is terrific, rich, full-bodied and could easily pass for a Premier Cru Pommard with its notes of apple skin, pomegranate, black cherries and blackberry. There is some earth, spice, cove and plum as well. This is a big, complex, muscular style of Pinot Noir to drink over the next 10-15 years. R35-4
