A symphony of flavors, this rich expression exudes both power and finesse. Immediate freshness invites you into the glass, gracefully poised with ripe Meyer lemon, delicately embraced by light green herbs. The palate is accentuated with river stones and a touch of salt, intensifying notes of citrus pith and subtle almond under notes. Gorgeous.

Aromas of ripe apples and lemons with a lavender and honeysuckle undertone. It’s full-bodied with lovely firmness and form that gives the wine tension and focus. Hints of hay to the bright fruit in the aftertaste. R36-2 -

Hints of cool chalk and bright lemon show on this wine’s shy but fresh nose. A whisper of smoke accompanies the stony, wet-chalk notes. Chalkiness is even more pronounced on the palate, pervading texture and body, but also referencing lemon zestiness and riper tangerine. Gorgeously fresh now, this alluring wine is certain to evolve. Dark and winey, featuring lots of currant, fig and blackberry compote notes stuffed together, with hints of ganache, tobacco and roasted alder filling in around them. A warm earth accent runs through the finish, which exhibits grip and drive. Rock-solid. Best from 2022 through 2037. 750 cases made, 200 cases imported. R45-4 -

Domaine Rapet Père et Fils 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
$249.99Burgundy France

With the 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Rapet has produced his finest white since 2014. The wine opens in the glass with a classy nose of ripe lemons, green apple, white flowers and crushed chalk, framed by subtle hints of oatmeal and beeswax. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with excellent concentration and broad shoulders, but also promising structural tension and reserve. The long, chalky finish is penetrating and intense. This is well worth seeking out. R22-3 -

Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils 2019 Chateauneuf Du Pape Les Apotres

A relatively new cuvée that encompasses all the permitted varieties of the appellation and is brought up in amphora, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Apotres offers a beautiful perfume of black raspberry and blackberry fruits interwoven with loads of spring flowers, white truffle, spice, and sappy garrigue aromas and flavors. This beauty is seamless, medium to full-bodied, and my money is on it being the finest vintage for this cuvée to date. BX-5 -

The stunning 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Imperiale comes from old vines in two sandy parcels—one in Pied Long and one in la Crau. Exotic aromas of orange zest, Campari-like spice and exquisitely ripe cherries appear on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is silky and creamy in texture yet airy and vibrant, with a long, zesty finish. It’s a definite candidate for wine of the vintage, alongside its Mourvèdre-based stablemate, La Part des Anges. Drink: 2025-2040. SP33-6
