  • Piero Benevelli 2016 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte

Piero Benevelli 2016 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte

    $59.99

    Piedmont Italy

The 2016 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte is gorgeous. Dried herbs, crushed flowers, mint, licorice, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco give the 2016 striking aromatic nuance to match its mid-weight personality. There is a sense of translucence in the 2016 that is just compelling. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2016 has a ton of richness that emerges over time. The Le Coste spent 25 months in 40HL cask. I loved it.

Crisp, bright, and vivacious, CB+V is an aromatic white blend boasting a bouquet of honeysuckle and orange blossoms along with tropical fruit aromas of lychee and pineapple complemented by green apple, lemon, and grapefruit. The entry is bright and fresh, exhibiting flavors of fresh ginger, ruby grapefruit, lemon curd, and Granny Smith apples. While this is a fresh, juicy wine, it has an incredible midpalate weight with zesty acidity carrying the flavors through to the lengthy finish.

The aromas of iodine and oyster shell really come through together with black cherries and dark brambleberries. Medium body with firm and racy tannins that run the length of the wine. March 2025 release. Drinkable but even better in three or four years. Try after 2028. R3-1

Elegant aromas of crushed stones and lemon peel rise with delicate precision from the glass. The energetic palate snaps with tart citrus and stony mineral notes, while zippy acidity propels everything forward to a refreshingly saline finish.

This minerally red is light on its feet and fresh, with orange peel acidity and a base note of tar-tinged smoke, joined by ripe red currant and raspberry fruit, hints of red licorice and wild herbs. Reveals light, taut tannins that firm the finish. Drink now through 2028. 1,100 cases made, 525 cases imported.

Aromas of blackcurrants and blueberries with fresh sage and thyme, following through to a medium to full body with very polished tannins and cedar and sandalwood undertones. Some lavender and rose petals, too. Refined and polished. Needs three to four years to come together, but already beautiful. Drink after 2028, but hard not to taste now.
